Blog entry number 2  Mother’s Day – Canucks Game – and Deadlines.

May 12, 2024

Hello out there in the void that is called the internet I wonder anyone will read this.

Happy mothers’ day to all the mothers out there.  My family spoiled me. I was gifted three hanging flower baskets for my front porch. I love hanging baskets they always look so pretty. We had Chinese food for supper and then watched an old movie. yes, I am dating myself – I wouldn’t call “Back to the Future” an old movie but when you think about it 1985 was almost 40 years ago. So yes, it is an old movie.  Finally, it was the Stanley cup playoff game three of series 2 the Vancouver Canucks (my team!) versus the Edmonton Oilers. My boys took the game 4 to 3. I might live in Calgary, Alberta but the Canucks are and always will be my team. Next game is Tuesday.

Why am I writing this blog? Why? To get me into the habit of writing daily.  I found a website that I hope will help me get into the habit of meeting deadlines. Have you heard of it? It is called Deadlineforwriters.com: there are different monthly challenges. I signed up for was the 12 stories in 12 months. Every month you receive a prompt and a maximum number of words you must meet. The goal at the end of this challenge would be to have 12 strong stories with solid word counts.

It didn’t cost anything to join – I signed up. The site is set up kind of like a Facebook or a social media. You have a dashboard and can add friends.  Well, I though why not, it is worth a shot.

My first prompt was a single word:  Tide and the maximum word count was 1500 words. It did not take me very long to complete this story once I wrote it. My problem was coming up with an idea to write about.  Once I had an idea for the story it took me a couple hours to finish the first draft of the story. I rushed however and jumped the queue and I posted it well before the deadline.

I edited the story enough to get the word count down to 1500 words, but what I didn’t do was re read the story after making the changes. So, it was posted with a huge mistake. Oh well live and learn. Thankfully a kind reader brought the error to my attention. I can’t kick myself because of the mistake. I am only human. I made the change on my original draft and will have to repost the correction tomorrow.

Time for bed, work tomorrow, Chinese food leftovers for lunch.
